MEET DR. SARAH HERNANDEZ  |  HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
 
Texas Leadership Public Schools District Administration has appointed a new Principal for TLCA San Angelo High School who will lead the 2023-2024 School year. Dr. Hernandez’s work history demonstrates a track record of dedication, hard work, and a commitment to learning and the District was excited to welcome her to the team.
 
Dr. Hernandez started her career in education at Trinity Lutheran EC-6th as a Spanish teacher. Upon graduating with a Bachelors in English and Spanish, she taught high school English and ESOL at Central High School. She quickly demonstrated her potential and willingness to take on new challenges. Her enthusiasm for her students and advocacy for students led her to becoming an At Risk Coordinator at Central High School. Over the past 14 years, Dr. Hernandez has taken on important leadership roles, including Elementary Principal, At Risk Administrator, and Assistant Principal most recently at Central High School.
 
Dr. Hernandez earned both her Bachelors and Masters at Angelo State University. Committed to learning, Dr. Hernandez recently earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership at Hardin-Simmons University. She has developed a reputation for her strong work ethic, advocacy for students, and ability to work effectively with others. As part of her commitment to learning, she has also presented at numerous educational conferences locally, at the state level, and at the national level.
 
In her personal time, Dr. Hernandez is committed to serving the community through volunteering in local non-profits. Currently, Dr. Hernandez is the Secretary for the San Angelo Road Lizards Running club, and a board member of the San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Museum. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, training for half and full marathon races, and is an avid Crossfitter.
 
We have every confidence that she will excel in this new position, and we look forward to seeing her continued growth and success as she joins the TLCA family.

MEET MR. ROBERT WRAY  |  ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

 

Mr. Robert Wray has been in Education at both the Collegiate and Secondary level for 20+ years, and with the Texas Leadership family since August 2018. He is beginning his third year as the Assistant Principal at TLCA San Angelo High School. Before that, he worked on campus teaching World History and coaching football and baseball, and announcing football and basketball games. During his time in San Angelo, Mr. Wray has also been an announcer for all-star baseball and softball games sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.   

 

Mr. Wray holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from The Ohio State University and a Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting from Texas Tech University. After graduating from Texas Tech, he served as Associate Professor of Choral Music Education and Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. While at Marshall, he was the voice of the Marshall University Marching Thunder at all home football games and marching festivals. In addition, Mr. Wray was also elected President of the West Virginia Choral Directors Association (WVACDA) and was the recipient of a FIPSE (Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education) grant to participate in a Brazilian Faculty Exchange Program at Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG) in Goiania and Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina (UDESC) in Florianopolis.

 

Mr. Wray began his teaching career in Waldorf, Maryland, where he was Director of Choral Activities at Westlake High School, where he directed three choirs, taught class piano, and coached football, basketball, baseball, and softball. Mr. Wray returned to the same teaching position at Westlake High School in 2016. He was also the featured announcer for football and basketball games, the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference Football All-Star Game, and the Maryland Special Olympics Unified State Track Championships. 

 

Mr. Wray is married to Msgt. Valerie Wray (RET) and is the father of five children, ages 2-13.
