Enrolling Your Kindergarten Student at Texas Leadership

Hello future Texas Leadership family!! Can we first tell you that we are so excited about the chance to count you among the thousands of students who call our school home! You are about to discover what so many parents have already found out about us. That Texas Leadership is a safe, educational, Leader-In-Me, fun place to be! Our vision is to see students at all ages thrive!

What an exciting time it is! Students in Kindergarten are discovering more about the world around them and diving into the fundamentals of Math, Reading, Science exploration and all that encompasses the neat world of Social Studies.

Kindergarten at Texas Leadership will set your child up for success as they go beyond the Kinder classroom and grow from First Grade all the way through High School Graduation.

Our classrooms are filled with engaging elements that combine technology with hands-on learning. We pride ourselves in seeing a high percentage of our Kindergarten students transform each day and exceed State Standards year-over-year.

Pearson myView Reading  |

Engages students by introducing thematic units that allow for the integration of social studies and science across the curriculum. While focusing on various themes, students explore concepts about themselves, their community, and their world. Students learn skills to maintain a healthy inter- and intra-personal lifestyle. Through the thematic units, students are encouraged to express themselves through various mediums, learn the joy of reading as they discover diverse works of literature, and develop sophistication in the use of oral and written language as they engage in meaningful discussion and authentic writing. The myView program integrates instruction in phonics, phonemic awareness, spelling, comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, listening, speaking, fluency and letter formation.

Really Great Reading (Phonics Program )  |

Provides educators with the tools and knowledge to teach all students (not just those who learn easily) to read. Really Great Reading makes assessment and grouping practical, efficient and accurate. Our approach to reading instruction is research-based, interactive, explicit, structured, and multisensory. In our lessons, students not only learn to read, but enjoy the intelligent learning process.

Go Math  |

A comprehensive mathematics program that builds on prior learning with an approach that provides deep, long-term mastery of the content and skills taught. The program emphasizes Essential Questions and Big Ideas with depth of understanding as the goal.

The Classroom Experience  |

  • Morning Meeting” Time: Children experience a sense of belonging, practice communication skills, and are introduced to new concepts and materials through strategies such as shared reading and writing, calendar math and group discussion.
  • Whole-Group Lessons: We know that some skills and concepts need to be taught to the whole group together, followed by the opportunity for independent practice while the teacher visits students at their tables.
  • Read-Aloud: Children learn about each component of literacy as they listen to and discuss high-interest texts related to units of study.
  • Learning Centers: Development is supported through hands-on exploration of important literacy and mathematics concepts while a teacher circulates to monitor and further learning.
  • Small Groups: Teachers provide lessons to small groups that reinforce essential skills, and reteach or enrich as necessary.
  • Snack and Lunch Time: Children practice self-care routines, help distribute materials and clean up, and enjoy time to socialize.
  • Outdoor Play: All areas of development are supported as children explore and play on the playground.
  • Kindergarten Electives/”Specials”  |  Library, Music, Art, Physical Education (P.E), and Library.

MEET MRS. CROPPER!  |  Hello Future Scholars!! My name is Elizabeth Cropper, I am 39 years old. I have been teaching Kindergarten for 10 YEARS!! It seems like just yesterday that I started teaching. They say time flies when you're having fun! Fun is exactly what we have in my classroom. We learn a lot through whole group teaching, as well as a lot of group work. We love to Synergize in our classroom. Seeing these sweet babies learn and seeing those light bulbs in their brains turn on powers my drive to teach. Being a teacher is a passion of mine.

A little bit about Mrs. Cropper: I have been married to my best friend Robert for 13 years. We have 3 amazing boys, Jayce is 19 and is a Sophomore at Angelo State, Jayden is 12 and is in 7th grade at TLCA, Jaymson is 11 and is in 6th grade at TLCA. My family is my other passion, they keep me grounded and support me and my crazy drive to always grow in being a better teacher.

I look forward to meeting you and enjoying an amazing fun filled first year of school!

MEET MRS. GARCIA!  |  Hello future Texas Leadership (TLCA) Eagle family! My name is Erin Garcia and I am so glad you have decided to consider us for your child’s future education! Our Kindergarten team takes this responsibility very seriously and is very passionate about making sure your child is challenged, encouraged, and falls in love with learning! I came to TLCA last December and am so proud to be a part of the Eagle family. My previous teaching experience has been 10 years in early childhood education, most of that time has been in the Pre-K classroom. I am so thrilled to be teaching kindergarten and truly have loved watching these sweet spunky students become readers, and mathematical geniuses! Helping these Kindergarteners discover their strengths is a passion of mine and I cannot wait for a brand-new year! In my classroom it is my mission to instill a love of learning in my students through fun, hands on learning, passion, creativity, and adventure. My goal is for your child to walk into my class and know they are valued, they are smart, and help them discover learning is FUN! I want to engage your child and help create lifelong learners as I myself am continuing to learn and grow.

I can't wait to meet you and get to know YOUR family! Let me be the first to say, welcome to ours!!

MEET MRS. HOBSON!  |  Hello soon-to-be Kindergarteners! My name is Savannah Hobson. I graduated from Angelo State University in 2018, and I am 24 years old. This will be my third year teaching Kindergarten. The classroom is my favorite place to be! I aim to create an environment where students feel empowered, loved, and motivated to perform their best. I enjoy building relationships with my students as a foundation for their academic success. The amount of growth you and I will both see in your Kindergartener is so exciting! In my classroom, we learn to be proactive in our daily activities and the way that we treat our classmates because we operate as a TEAM: everyone has a purpose!

In addition to teaching, I also enjoy spending time with my amazing husband Christopher, we are high school sweethearts and newly married! We love spending time with our four legged friend Rusty, going on trips, and going to the movies.

Fun fact about me: I graduated from TLCA in 2014 and have loved coming back to teach! I can't wait to be a part of your first school year EVER!

MEET MRS. LANDIS!  |  Hello Future, Super Leaders! My name is Michelle Landis, and this will be my 4th year teaching Kindergarten, my 7th year teaching with Texas Leadership and my 12th year of teaching in public schools. I took an 11-year break while serving in the Army, but even there I was an instructor, so I have been teaching ages Pre-K through Adult educators for over 20 years! I have a passion for teaching and learning, with all that experience I find Kindergarten to be the most rewarding. I get a heart full of joy when they get that happy sparkle in their eye when they realize that they can read on their own! As a former music teacher, Kindergarten is my jam, I like to incorporate a lot of music and dancing in my classroom. I’m a firm believer that music helps kids connect and learn other subjects. If you can sing it, you can read it and remember it!

On a personal note I have been married to my husband Wayne for 16 years, we met while serving in the Army.  We have amazing, spunky, sassy 12-year old twins Emma and Sofia who are in 7th grade at our school this year. Our family is truly a miracle of God’s blessings and I would be lost without them.  The military brought us to San Angelo 15 years ago and we decided to stay and make it our home and never looked back.

I’m very excited to meet our newest Little Eagles and help guide them on a super fun path of learning!

MEET MRS. LUNA!  |  Hello! My name is Cassandra Luna and I have been teaching for 16 years. Eight of which have been in kindergarten. My teaching career has allowed me to experience teaching in different age groups but my heart belongs to early childhood education. I love helping children grow and have a positive experience as they begin their educational career.  In our classroom students are engaged and active in their learning. Students also take on lead roles in class because I believe we all learn from each other’s strengths. I take pride in highlighting and bring out those strengths in my students. I strive to develop the foundation of readiness for learning through hands on activities and teacher guided lessons. Helping students developing into readers, writers, and mathematicians at their level and pace while increasing their natural curiosity and excitement. We have fun in our class and build friendships.

Just a little personal info about me, I have been married for 17 years and have 5 amazing children. Four of which are boys and one girl. My children attend Texas Leadership as well, at the High School, Jr. High and elementary.

I am looking forward to meeting new families and students and beginning new friendships!

MEET MS. MILBOURN  |  Hello! My name is Stephanie Milbourn, and I am a kindergarten teacher at Texas Leadership (TLCA). I have taught third and first grades as well, but I enjoy teaching kindergarten the most because it is such a special time in a child’s life. I love helping children make their first connections and discoveries that set them up for a lifetime of schooling success. I use age-appropriate, hands-on methods in all subjects that promote learning while capturing children’s interest. I rely on Habit #6, Synergize, when building relationships with my students’ families, and I pride myself on the rapport that I have with them.

I have two children, ages 10 and 4. My family and I enjoy dancing, bike rides, and playing outside. We love to travel, and I hope to expose my children to as many different cultures and experiences as I can so they can appreciate the diversity and beauty of our world.
