Ms. Sides’ Family Community Service class recently showed off their green thumbs at the High School. From planting a crepe myrtle tree (kindly donated by Olive’s Nursery) and beautiful lily plants (donated by Home Depot) students dedicated their efforts to pay homage to the awesome TLCA High School Principals. It was a feat getting all 3 Principals together at one time due to their busy schedules. As you can see, they share gracious smiles and appreciation for this wonderful act of kindness.

TLCA High School students and staff bore witness to an awesome event! Thanks to the collaboration of Family Consumer Science Teacher, Elizabeth Sides and Science Teacher (and artist) Scott Sustek, Principal Appreciation Day was showcased in AMAZING FORM!

High School Principals, Johnny Burleson, Casey Ferguson, and Mrs. White were honored with a student-led prayer from Senior, Nick Bosworth and then witnessed the unveiling of 3 handmade cement benches (with an embossed eagle on each), a beautiful tree and flowers/plants to enhance the occasion. These tokens will be constant reminders of the powerful and positive impact of our 3 outstanding TLCA High School Principals.

TLCA High School's Orlando Romero has had a remarkable year. This year he has yet to be beaten in the 800m. Recently, he placed first running a 1:59 at the Region I 3A Track and Field Championships held at Abilene Cristian University. Orlando punched his ticket to the Texas UIL State Championships with that performance. He is the reigning 2019 District, Area and Regional Champion in the 800m and is seeking an individual state title on May 9th. After high school, Orlando plans to further his track career at West Texas A&M University. Go Buffs!

Today was filled with excitement and joy day as TLCA High School celebrated its annual Academic Awards Ceremony hosted by Principal Johnny Burleson.


Certificates, Medals, and Scholarships were the "names of the game" as this day celebrated TLCA students' excellence in all subjects. The future certainly is bright for each Eagle in our school!

A very special thank you to Mrs. Luther's 8th grade National Junior Honor Society students. These fine young leaders exemplified a servant's heart and excellence through and through. Each student helped to ensure the 2018-2019 Athletic Banquet went-off without a hitch! Meaning, it was smooth sailing with these volunteers ensuring everyone and everything was taken care of. Well done, Eagles!

Congratulations to the HS Eagle Band for making a 1 (Superior Performance)
at the Sound Waves Competition at Schlitterbahn this past Saturday. Excellent job everyone!

Recently, TLCA HS Track and Field athletes competed well and represented TLCA like champs! Orlando Romero ran the 800m run and won 1st place time: 1:59.88 He then ran the 400 and got 7th with a time of 51:01 He will advance to the state meet in Austin!

Taylor Garner ran the 800 and finished in 12th place. His time was 2:07.00

Seth Levesque placed 5th in the triple jump. He jumped 43'-10.50". This was his personal best.

Abryana Pruit ran the 100m dash and finished 5th place with a time of 12.56.

Well done Eagles! We are very proud of you!

On Thursday, April 25, Mr. Sustek’s High School Chemistry Students benefited from an outreach by ASU Chemistry’s Dr. Ralph Zehnder (aka "Dr. Z") and his star chemistry students (who also happen to be interested in teaching).


(The ASU Chemistry program has a mobile program and visits different schools in the spring after their exams are completed). Dr. Z and his various acolytes have been dazzling Mr. Sustek’s chemistry classes for at least the past 6 years, and he was happy to continue the tradition at TLCA.


Students from Mr. Sustek's 6th-period chemistry class (as well as those in Mr. Hedden's class) came together to participate. The ASU crew demonstrated appropriate chem-lab safety and worked with liquid nitrogen (with a temp of 400 below F) to demonstrate gas laws and phase changes. Furthermore, they demonstrated a carbon tower by dehydrating sugar with sulfuric acid, rapid decomposition of a gummy bear with potassium permanganate, and other chemistry party tricks.


Students left with more interest in pursuing science as a career. We will always welcome any opportunity for them to return, maybe in the future with TLCA grads!
